12 days of photography

We all know that familiar feeling; you want to do something creative, but the inspiration won’t take the shape of an idea. That’s where we step in. Throughout the years of running Itsnuet.com, we’ve been making different creative challenges in an attempt to spark inspiration and motivation for those of you who might be feeling stuck in a writing or art block.

This time it’s all about photography, so grab your digital, analog, single use or iphone camera and channel your inner photographer. Within these next two weeks you might unlock new ideas and potential you never knew you had. Some days will be more difficult than others, but keep on taking photos and remember why you clicked on this article in the first place. If you would like to share your work, we would absolutely love to see it, so be sure to use the hashtag #creativesuniting x We’ll see you on the other side of the lens...

In today’s technological and social media focused world, we’ve become used to phone libraries containing thousands of photos, and we often deem photography as just another mundane part of everyday life. Because of this, we want you to only take three photos throughout the day. Put some thought and effort into them, and really consider the potential each photo has.

Experiment with different textures. How can you express a texture through a photograph in ways you cannot by simply looking at the object yourself?

Get out of your comfort zone and show people/ post a photo of something you would normally not dare to publish (but know deep down that you would if something wasn’t holding you back). Maybe you don’t normally consider yourself a selfie kind of person, but have a bomb ass selfie that a part of you wants to publish. Go for it!

Walk around your neighborhood and see if you find some interesting details you might have overlooked whilst going about your daily business. There is so much beauty lying just beneath the surface of familiar environments.

Photograph the space where you feel most like yourself. It can be in nature, a self portrait where you’re wearing your favorite jeans or a person that makes you feel 100% like yourself when you’re with them.

Experiment with natural light and shadows. Perhaps you want to research clair-obscur and see if you can recreate the same mood through modern tools and time.

Explore black and white photography. How does stripping an image of color change its story? Can contrasts be highlighted through lack of color?

Time to have some fun and recreate a few old family photos!

Pick a color, then make sure to take a photo of every object with that color that you find that day. Like, the sky, the blue hair dye in your friend’s braids, your eyes and the lid on a jar of blueberry jam…

Try to find and capture beauty in mundane scenes; At the breakfast table, doing your makeup in the morning, the bottom of your coffee cup, sneakers covered in grass and melting candles.

Take five photos which represents you life. Familiar places, people and emotions, or more abstract photos which represents how it feels and what it means to be you.

Ask the people you love the most if you can photograph them and capture their uniqueness. A closeup of smile lines and freckles, crooked teeth or big eyebrows. Capture the unique beauty you see in them.

Pretend you’re an artist of your dreams for the day. Think outside the box and allow yourself to think creatively and artistically.

Today, it’s all about emotions. Capture the scenes that inspired your emotions of the day. What made you smile and what made you frown?
